How Children Succeed QCQ

Quote:
"And when Angela Duckworth, the guru of self-control and grit at the University of Pennsylvania, analyzed GPA and standardized-test scores among middle-school and high-school students, she found that standardized-test scores were predicted by scores on pure IQ tests and that GPA was predicted by scores on tests of self-control."
Comment:
While I do agree with most of this paper, I question the conclusion of the study that related standardized-test scores and IQ test scores. Having prepped for the SAT myself, I believe that the SAT is more based on preparation rather than IQ. I would even go as far as to argue that while her studies may have been accurate, the relation is nothing more than a coincidence and that IQ has very little or nothing to do with SAT scores.
Question:
Has anyone else conducted studies about SAT scores? What were their conclusions?
In the end of the article, it is discussed that a lot of people don't stay in college. Might that also partially be due to the standards that we force on students in order to earn a degree?
